comtan is a catechol-o-methyltransferase (comt) inhibitor. entacapone is used only in combination with carbidopa and levodopa. all products are authentic brand names and will include a product information insert in english. by extending the effect of each dose of sinemet, it frees the patient from the stiffness and tremors of parkinson's for a longer period of time.when used with levodopa and carbidopa, entacapone increases levels of levodopa (dopar, larodopa, sinemet) in the body. it is prescribed when doses of the combination drug levodopa/carbidopa (sinemet) begin to wear off too soon.
